What is the ACP-EU JPA?

In June 2000, the EUMS and the government of a number of African, Caribbean and Pacific countries signed the Cotonou Agreement, and therefore agreed to work together as inter-regional blocks towards common goals. The Cotonou Agreement is currently under review with a view to be updated in 2020. Malta, as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, has had crucial role to play in the discussions towards the concepts which will underscored this updating process. This ACP-EU process is further extended to include a parliamentary dimension. It is in fact this dimension that will meet in Malta this week and the next for the 33rd Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliametnary Assembly. Around 400 MEPs and MPS from the EU and from the above mentioned regions will be coming to Malta to participate in plenary sessions as well as a number of side events and workshops.
